The mission of Westminster Preschool is to provide outstanding early childhood education for preschool age children in our region. We view early childhood as an essential foundation for the development of children's social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language growth. We utilize Developmentally Appropriate Practice which is a teaching strategy based on expert knowledge of how young children learn. Developmentally Appropriate Practices provide the framework for all of our endeavors.
Our philosophy is to capture the teachable moments that happen every day by fostering the intellectual, creative, social, emotional, and physical growth and development of our students and to inspire a lifelong commitment to learning. It is the philosophy of Westminster Preschool that children be encouraged to learn and grow by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences where all children can succeed in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe that each child is a unique individual and that all children can learn. Our preschool programs provide inclusive settings that recognize children's varied abilities, interests, needs, and learning styles. We believe children learn best through meaningful play. Our play-based, child centered program reflects the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, self-help and aesthetic areas for the total development of the child. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery, and problem solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image. We recognize that parents are the child's first teachers and children learn best when parents are involved in their educational endeavors. To parents, our preschool is also important. At Westminster Preschool, our teachers care deeply about your child and want to be partners with you in understanding your child's unique gifts. Our school is a resource for parents seeking information and understanding about early childhood and our monthly activities through newsletters, calendars, and posts on our private Facebook page.
